CenturyLinkQuote Scholarship Essay

In October of 2012 I was accepted to the Colorado School of Mines.  Even now, I do not have the words to describe the extreme enthusiasm I felt as I opened that acceptance letter.  The academic excellence and job placement are two of Mines most distinguishing features, however, the one factor that sets Mines apart from all other universities is its ability to foster incredible diversity, and yet still keep all students and faculty unified.

The staff at Mines hold outstanding degrees in fields from physics to life sciences and everything in between.  Although many of these classes are intended for very different majors, the passion put into the lectures and material is more valuable than any piece of technology.  It is because of this passion that students are able to excel in their own fields and make a true difference in our world.

Colorado School of Mines’ little corner of the world is located in Golden, Colorado.  The breathtaking views and plethora of activities give students a way to stay healthy, busy, and also meet new people. With outdoor activities from hiking, to shopping, to sunbathing, there is something for everyone to enjoy.  Students may go off on their own to begin an adventure in the mountains, or relax in the city, but it is almost guaranteed that they will return to campus with a friend close to their hearts.

The final, and perhaps most significant aspect of diversity is student population.  Students are among scholars from not only the United States, but all over the world.  This mixture of culture, language, and knowledge is nothing less than an incredible networking opportunity.  With this many people from so many different walks of life, there is a place for everyone.  Although there is such a wide range of people, there is one thing all these students have in common; their love for knowledge and willingness to work for success.

Although I do not officially begin my studies at the Colorado School of Mines until August 2012, I am proud to be a miner, and I cannot wait to truly experience this picture perfect campus.

I would much rather have these friendships end in a big fight.  Then I would at least know why you’ve been pulling away.  Then I’d have some closure and be able to accept it.

I keep saying I am lowering my expectations for people. Then, my optimism gets the best of me and I am continually hurt and disappointed. And you all wonder why I want to graduate…
